What they don't do, in my opinion, is just say they fixed something because the natural flow of listings for that search has changed. That would be a dumb thing to do after they've largely bought themselves time by saying they wanted to fix the problem but wanted to do it in a holistic way that works for a wide variety of searches, which would take time. Calling for a fix when there isn't one just makes the PR problem worse, especially when the
Guardian journalist who brought the issue to attention, Carole Cadwalladr, isn't going to stop the pressure if that research particular changes. She (and others) will fax number list continue to review a range of problematic search results, like the one she tweeted earlier this week: 1/2 Are black people smart? 'Black people are the least intelligent race of them all' says Google's 'knowledge box' - BBChttps://t.co/UkDpAogqlw pic.twitter.com/pfvFMRM2nM — Carole
Cadwalladr (@carolecadwalla) December 20, 2016 It turns out that the results of that search “are they smart for black people” – one of the results of a BBC story earlier this week – has also changed. The boxed "snippet" response is gone, which was likely a manual fix rather than due to an algorithm change. But the site that was featured would still have appeared in a number one slot without a box, even with manual intervention. It also disappeared, now appearing on the second page of results for me.
